Digital Photography and Editing – Special Interest Group (SIG)

It is proposed to establish a Special Interest Group devoted to digital photography, editing and preparing digital photographs for printing. The SIG will be open to any members of SeniorNet Kapiti. It will be an informal group of members who are interested and willing to share their knowledge and experience with like-minded people. There will be no formal classes or prepared material.

Members of this SIG will need to bring their own personal computing devices to the meetings as it is anticipated that those attending will be working with a variety of editing programs and the SeniorNet computers do not have suitable software installed.

Meetings will be held on the third Monday afternoon of each month commencing on Monday the 16th May 2016 at 1.30pm. Members do not need to book, just turn up and pay $5 per session. For practicable reasons the numbers may be limited.

If you are interested in joining this Special Group please email the convenor, Ian MacArthur, on ethianmac@xtra.co.nz

Tutors Wanted

We are always on the lookout for more (assistant) tutors so why not contact Kuini at kuini.woolcock@gmail.com and she will discuss the options with you. You will be given training by experienced senior tutors.

Apple Mac – Special Interest Group (SIG)

Apple LogoWe have already held our first Apple Mac Special Interest Group. How did it go? Well….the members who attended were enthusiastic and keen for group support in the future. We all agreed that research was needed to find out the level of learning and also to accumulate a network of Apple users within SeniorNet and the Kapiti area.
Various members at the meeting volunteered to assist with this research.

One key question that was asked at the meeting (as we have Windows based systems in our Learning Centre) was how do we enable members to gain the best out of any Mac Special Interest Group? The immediate answer was that it would be useful for Mac users who have a MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air to bring them along. We may explore other options in the future but these would be dependent on the level of interest in and attendance at Mac Special Interest Groups.

From the contact that came in to us via email as well as the interest demonstrated by those who attended, it’s obvious that there are members out there that are Apple Mac users and they do require help. The challenge is to find out who, how many, and the level of help required. If you are one of these members please let us know now by contacting Shona Spicer, (smetspicer@gmail.com) and you can join our Mac Users list. You will then be kept up to date with what’s happening and when.

So whether you have a iMac desktop, MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air and require support or are willing to share your experiences please consider attending our next Mac Special Interest Group meeting, Monday 04 April at 1.30pm.
